Sometimes the gum enlarges and creates spaces or pockets into which bacteria can accumulate. In a simple procedure, excessive gum is removed using local anesthetic. Often times a laser is used to remove the gum effortlessly and painlessly. It usually takes no more than an hour. You can expect to return to normal activities immediately after leaving the office.
